When I look at sewing and crafting blogs I am constantly amazed at the bloggers creative output. Take patchwork quilting, for example, I struggle with all that preparation. But last week I came across a charity shop project that avoids all that cutting out. Charity shops are like a magnet, drawing you in and then releasing you again with random treasure and trash only much later to discover that you have an endless collection of jugs, books, plates, buttons, boxes and old embroidery that you had forgotten you were going to craft new life into. In the Dog Rescue shop, I spied a tatty plastic bag, full of hexies already cut from very old greeting cards, some already tacked to the card, others waiting to be attached - a quilt in the making. An assistant voiced, " You can have that bag full for £3.00. It's been here quite a while." " I have so make projects waiting to get started. If I bought it I would have to give it you back again in a couple of months", I replied. " Well, why don't you make the quilt first and then bring it back?" So,of course, yes, sold ... a worthwhile cause etc...... I'll let you know how I progress. It is a fascinating package ... You can see the hexies below, made from pretty old fabrics and charming greeting cards with written names (Dorothy, Primrose and Frank) giving some idea of the age of their owner, and when people used to buy or be given fabric for making clothes and bedding , then, made patchwork with the remnants. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . After my Easter post in April, I was lucky enough to win a super giveaway from Helen Philipps, my favourite blogger and sewing inspiration. Absolutely thrilled to bits to have one of Helen's makes. - a little string of sewn birds with white a pretty covered fabric beads. Plus some lovely speckled eggs, a Cath Kitson ticket holder and some fresh-green wool cotton, with one of Helen's signed sweet postcards. Now hanging in our little box bedroom. I love Helen's work and enjoy making her designs both small patchwork and cross stitch.
